Anderson University's Baptist Collegiate Ministries (BCM) is a student led organization on campus that, not only strives to serve the campus, but also exists to offer opportunities for the students to be involved in the community in which they live. Our mission is to pray, love, serve, minister, and disciple those around us. BCM values building a community of followers of Christ through building personal relationships for the intent purpose of life change. We want to serve like Christ served us and we want to love like Christ continually and graciously loves us.
"Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus:
Who, being in very nature God,
did not consider equality with God something to be grasped,
but made himself nothing,
taking the very nature of a servant,
being made in human likeness.
And being found in appearance as a man,
he humbled himself
and became obedient to death—
even death on a cross!
Therefore God exalted him to the highest place
and gave him the name that is above every name,
that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father."
Philippians 2:5-11
As we plan for our first Serve the City: Homeless for the Homeless event, BCM hopes that it challenges the students of Anderson University and the residents of Anderson, SC to meet the real needs of our community. BCM prays that through this event we offer an example of how we individually and corporately try to live out the Gospel.
Our primary goal through this event is to highlight the love of Jesus and His heart for the lost, oppressed, and broken. We want to bring the campus and community together in one event to enhance our knowledge of homelessness and generate a solution. Through this event we hope by building relationships and connecting with others, we as a body of Christ can offer love and spiritual support to who Jesus names the least of these.
"Then the King will say to those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.'
"Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?'
"The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.'
Matthew 25: 30-40
